4th   call for research application related to economic activity under the 1.1.1.9. activity “Post-doctoral Research”

 

Latvian Council of Science announces the 4th call for research applications related to economic activity under the 1.1.1.9. activity “Post-doctoral Research”. 

The purpose of the activity is to develop the skills of new scientists and to increase the scientific capacity, ensuring the possibilities for new scientists to start a career in scientific institutions and with enterprises, as well as improvement of research competences, renewal of human resources and increase in the number of qualified specialists.

The 4th call for research applications supports only economic industrial research applications.

The target group of the activity is postdoctoral researchers – Latvian or foreign researchers – who have acquired a doctoral degree not more than 10 years before the deadline for submission of the research application (parental leave and temporary work disability are taken into account).

A research application may be implemented by a micro, small, or medium-sized enterprise registered in Latvia, as defined in Annex I to Commission Regulation (EU) No 651/2014, or by a scientific institution registered in Latvia, regardless of whether it meets the definition of a research organization.

The following costs specified in Commission Regulation No 651/2014 shall be eligible for a research application related to economic activity:

  • the research costs specified in Article 25(3)(a), (b), (d), and (e) in conformity with the permissible aid intensity of public funding specified in Paragraph 74 of this Regulation if aid is provided in accordance with Article 25 of Commission Regulation No 651/2014;
  • the costs of protection of technology rights specified in Article 28(2)(a) in conformity with the permissible aid intensity of public funding specified in Sub-paragraph 76.1 of this Regulation if aid is provided in accordance with Article 28 of Commission Regulation No 651/2014;
  • the costs of training aid specified in Article 31(3)(b) and (d) in conformity with the permissible aid intensity of public funding specified in Sub-paragraph 76.2 of this Regulation if aid is provided in accordance with Article 31 of Commission Regulation No 651/2014. Aid will not be provided for the training referred to in Article 31(2) of Commission Regulation No 651/2014.

Within the framework of a research application, the activities defined in Paragraph 45 of the Cabinet Regulation of the measure are supported and only research applications that contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the Latvian Smart Specialization Strategy or to the development of specialization areas, including interdisciplinary research applications corresponding to at least one of the defined Latvian Smart Specialization areas, are supported.

A research applicant may implement the research application individually or in partnership with a scientific institution of a foreign country or of Latvia, institution of higher education or enterprise

The maximum implementation period is 36 months, but no later than 30 June 2029.
The maximum grant amount is up to EUR 192,360. Research applications must be implemented in Latvia.

The application submission period is from 9 February 2026 to 31 May 2026. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis, and their evaluation will be carried out in four interim stages or until the funding allocated for the call is exhausted:

  • 1st interim stage: 28 February 2026
  • 2nd interim stage: 31 March 2026
  • 3rd interim stage: 30 April 2026
  • 4th interim stage: 31 May 2026.

The Latvian Council of Science reserves the right to discontinue the acceptance of applications before 31 May 2026 if the funding allocated for the call has been exhausted.
