On 19 May 2026, COST’s governing board, the Committee of Senior Officials, confirmed the funding of 80 new COST Actions, that will officially start in Autumn 2026.
COST Actions offer opportunities to establish international connections, engage in interdisciplinary cooperation, participate in conferences, working groups and short-term scientific missions, as well as develop new research ideas and future project partnerships.
The newly approved COST Actions stand out for their strong interdisciplinarity and broad international cooperation:
- 61% of the new Actions cover at least two OECD science and technology fields;
- 20% cover three or more scientific fields;
- 71% of the new networks already include participants from around the world;
- 70% of the networks already involve partners from industry or the SME sector.
Among the proposers of the new COST Actions:
- 53% of the lead proposers are women;
- 29% are young researchers or innovators;
- 38% of the lead proposers represent Inclusiveness Target Countries.
The most represented field is natural sciences (50% of Actions), followed by social sciences (40%), engineering and technology (33%), medical and health sciences (31%), agricultural sciences (16%), and humanities (15%).
