In October 2026, Science Europe, the association of European research organisations, published the guidelines “Science Communication and Research Culture”, aimed at strengthening the role of science communication within the research system and fostering public trust in science.

The guidelines set out eight core principles for responsible and effective science communication, emphasising that science communication should be an integral part of research culture. These principles highlight the importance of openness, research integrity, dialogue with society, recognition of professional communication competencies, and institutional support. The guidelines also address the challenges and opportunities that digital technologies and artificial intelligence present for science communication.
